Dr. Joan Hernández Serret holds a PhD Cum Laude in Sociology from the University of Barcelona (UB). He is currently professor of sociology at the University of Barcelona (UB); at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Barcelona (ISCREB); and at the Faculty of Humanities of the International University of Catalonia (UIC). He also participates as a professor in several master’s degrees: “Interreligious, ecumenical and cultural dialogue” of the ISCREB and the Ramon Llull-Blanquerna University; Postgraduate in “Humanization and Spirituality in Plural Societies” at the University of SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital; “Protocol, Institutional Relations and Strategic Event Organization” of the Blanquerna School of Communication – (Ramon Llull University); and as a trainer of the course “Religious diversity in open societies” of the school of public administration.
Professionally, he has worked in ISOR at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1999), the Interreligious Center of the Barcelona City Council (2000-2003) and as co-director of the program of the IV Parliament of World Religions (2002 to 2004). Since 2005 he is the director of the Stable Working Group of Religions (GTER). And he is Vice President of Religions for Peace in Europe (2018-2020). He collaborates in interreligious dialogue programs at the KAICIID International Interreligious Center in Vienna.
